Our Staff
Matt R. Teuscher, DVM
Veterinarian/Owner
Dr. Teuscher grew up on a farm in central Illinois and knew from a young age that he wanted to become a veterinarian. He earned his bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University, followed by his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004.
From 2004 to 2013, Dr. Teuscher practiced at a progressive AAHA-accredited hospital in Illinois, where he developed extensive surgical expertise, particularly in orthopedic procedures. He also provided referral-based surgical services for other area hospitals.
In 2013, he and Amanda purchased Island Animal Hospital of Venice. While he enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, Dr. Teuscher feels most at home in the surgery suite. He continues to offer surgical services to local veterinary hospitals and emergency clinics on a referral basis.
Outside of work, he enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with Amanda and their two sons, Mason and James. Dr. T and Amanda share their home with a sweet golden retriever named "Cinder" and a crabby (but loyal) miniature schnauzer named "Libby".
Amanda Teuscher
Hospital Manager/Owner
Amanda is our veterinary hospital manager-and Dr. T's better half! She earned her bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from Eastern Illinois University and previously worked in banking. Before staying home with her boys, she was a high school teacher. These days, Amanda keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes so Dr. T can focus on caring for patients. Her favorite role, though, is being a mom to her college-aged sons, Mason and James.
Amanda R. Elston, DVM
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Elston grew up in central Florida, attending the University of Florida for both undergrad and veterinary school. She graduated with a Bachelor's in Animal Sciences in 2006 and completed her doctorate degree from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. For the last 15 years she practiced mixed animal and shelter medicine in northeast Iowa, treating anything with 4 legs. She then decided to head back to the sunshine state with her rescue dog, Manny and is excited to join the Island Animal Hospital team.
